Sappiness
1. Where did you meet your husband?
On the internet. How very 21st century of us. It was 2000, and I actually knew the man who ended up being our Best Man first. He introduced us and we talked online a bit. Himself had had his heart broken and was seeing a girl called Jo, and then it turned out we were going to to the same gig so we arranged to meet up. My friend actually found him there.
2. What was the first thing you said to your husband?
I really can’t remember - either online or in person. He did hug me the first time we met, though, after he’d said he wouldn’t. He’s a very huggable person, I still think that.
3. Where was your first date?
He came to stay at my parents’ house. He actually missed the National Express bus the first time, and I was gutted beyond belief - my ex had done similar things, see. He came the next morning instead. It was the very beginning of July. I had asked him out on June 26th, which ended up being our wedding day. I told him to stop seeing Jo and start seeing me.Â
4. Where was your first kiss?
In my attic room at my parents’ house.
5. Did you have a long/short engagement/courtship?
Looooooong engagement. We got engaged on my 17th birthday, six months after we met (heh) and got married when I was 21 1/2, after I’d finished university.
6. Where did you get engaged?
He proposed in my bedroom the night before my 17th birthday. I knew he was going to - we’d been talking about it for a few weeks and I’d already told my parents (that was hilarious) and we’d bought the ring over that New Year. We had an engagement party the following year, it was a joint 18th birthday party for me, and all his family came. His brother got drunk and threw up at my mother’s, and Himself, Best Man and my friend R sang Livin’ On A Prayer at the tops of their voices. It’s bizarre what you remember, innit.Â
7. Where did you get married?
Here. My dad was involved in its refurbishment (he’s a quanity surveyor) and when we saw it we really liked it. The bridal suite was as big as my house. We had a BBQ! It was a really hot day (so many hours in a hot white dress, my god) so the kids played outside and everyone was happy. The music was the thing people remember. We chose every song ourselves and had Nellie the Elephant twice

This is on my 17th birthday. My mum pointed out at the weekend that our kids won’t believe we ever looked so young. I don’t believe it, and it’s only 7 years ago!
