Oooh, I’m on fire*

*I have no good answer for why I’m listening to Bruce Springsteen. Just, Bruce Springsteen.

Well, I’ve been missing for a week. This is because my friend Linda arrived last Wednesday at Manchester Airport (she lives in Sweden and flew in from Copenhagen). On Thursday we had a pub lunch where she sampled the delights of fish and chips, and then we went to see Yeti in Birmingham. (Don’t ask why Birmingham, which is a good 2 hours from here. Really, just don’t ask)

Yeti is the band of ex-Libertines bass player John Hassall. There used to be 5 of them (and were when I saw them 18 months ago in London) but the bass player (Brendan) left and now John’s back on bass, which is really nice. They seem to work much better as a foursome, I can’t really explain why but they do. I had seen them last Monday in HomeTown, that’s where the photos below are from. I hadn’t liked the support band The Foxes (please remember the The. Their fans get irate otherwise, apparently) then but on Thursday they were good. I bought their EP and talked to two of them, including their lead singer who looks like a young Ricky Wilson (the lead singer of the Kaiser Chiefs, for those to whom the name means nothing). The venue was freezing and laughably had a barrier, in case we fangirls stormed the stage, maybe? Anyway, Yeti were great and Linda loved it and we talked to Harmony (guitar) afterwards and got back to mine at 1.15am.

One day I’ll give up on all this, on all this chasing bands round and spending far too much money on gig tickets, but for now I’m building memories and it makes me incredibly happy.

On Friday we picked up our friend Sam, then Von arrived and then later Viky and Kimmi arrived, and lo, we were set for a weekend of hilarity. My friends are so funny. We had Chinese food and watched Life of Brian and avoided Dave Grohl on the TV (seriously he’s on every music channel EVER!). On Saturday we went for a trip to the park, then had more food and drink, then on Sunday we had a pub lunch before everyone had to go home. It was so funny, one of my favourite memories ever.

And you wouldn’t think 6 20-something girls could talk THAT much about boys in bands… Well, unless you know us. Then it’s very possible.

Viky, Sam and I got tickets to see Panic at the Disco in March. I love that stupid band, they eat my brain. I don’t even care how ridiculous they are. So, you know, shush.

I’m also seeing Amy Macdonald next week. I recommend her, she’s a bit like a less annoying Kate Nash, or a more credible KT Tunstall. I’m seeing Art Brut again after that. They’re not to everyone’s taste but they are so much fun.

Yes, I go to too many gigs. No, I’m not sorry about it ;)

(It would help if I added the photo…)
