Interview Part IV

I’m combining two today :)

From Dani:

For a single day, you are allowed to swap - guilt-free - Himself for any other man, alive or dead. He can be a real person, a literary character, an actor, a character from film or TV. Who would you choose and why? (No fair saying you’d choose Himself. That goes without saying!)

Just for one day? So I don’t have to settle down with him forever? I’d say Stephen Fry, but he’s gay. Maybe just for the day he’d put up with me, though? I’d like to just talk to him, ask him about his life and stuff. Failing Stephen, maybe James Dean Bradfield. He always seems really funny and down to earth. I’d like to have a chat and a cup of tea with him.

Lani at The Wooden Porch had questions for me too. Here are my answers :)

1. What do you find odd about Americans?
Er, most things?! Mostly that you all drive such big cars. And you all seem to live in huge houses, too. Our house is, at the very most, 800 feet square (that’s a rough approximation from my head). To most Americans that’s a small apartment. My bathroom is 4′ by 6′. Space is at a premium on this little island, and everyone wants their part of it. Come and live in my house for a while - although we have no kids, all my neighbours do. The Polish people at #3 have 4 adults squashed into a 2 bedroom house. (I swear to you, though, they have rotas on the beds…) Also, Americans pronounce things oddly. Like aluminium. And irony.

2. What theme of calendar do you have on your wall?
I like calendars. I always get one in the January sales, because then it’s cheaper. Here at work I have a Jack Vettriano one that I bought for 49p (that’s about a dollar, given the strong pound ;) ). I find a calendar visually helpful when I’m organising our centre users. I like Jack Vettriano cos my parents do. At home I have a calendar with VW Beetles on it. Old fashioned, proper ones. I would love to own one, one day, if I ever have enough money to keep shelling out for it. I also have The Libertines’ 2005 calendar. The dates are clearly wrong but I have to admit it’s mostly there for the eye candy :D

3. Have you ever had a really scary dream? If so, what happened?
I often dream my teeth are falling out. I have teeth issues. I used to dream that a lady in a green velvet dress led me into a catacomb and left me there to die. My most recent scary dream was that a man in a hood was chasing me with a gun, but I don’t know where I was. I dream vividly and emotionally. Himself never remembers his dreams. I think he just doesn’t try hard enough.

4. Do you write letters or postcards? If so, to whom?
Yes, I do. I used to have dozens of penpals, mostly in the UK but a few abroad. I sort of lost touch with most of them while I was at university. These days I have a friend in California, a friend in Canada and a girl in Sussex with whom I’m in regular contact. I met all three through LiveJournal penpal communities. The first two I don’t know apart from letters, which I like. Lia, the third, is turning into a really good friend of mine via text and email and LiveJournal. I like sending letters and parcels. I often send random things to friends - a quote on a piece of card, a little ‘I Love You!’ - just little things which brighten people’s days. I try to send my friend Laura something at least twice a month. Last week it was something which Nicky Wire said in an interview which I found funny. Mail always brightens the day, I find.

5. How do you react to practical jokes when they’re played on you?
I hate them. I hate when they’re played on anyone, really. Someone always ends up hurt and feeling ridiculous. I just don’t see the point. I’ve been told I have no sense of humour cos of this. I don’t care. They’re not worth it, in my opinion.

I hope that was interesting?!
